While many may beg to differ, the Jersey Shore holds some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. From Sandy Hook to Cape May, each beach town has a unique charm that only those who have set foot on them understand. Growing up, I never knew anything different than these beaches I often spent countless hours on. Whether it was basking in the sun, body surfing in the ocean, or building a sandcastle with my older cousins, I thought the Jersey Shore was the best it could get.

Coming to college and being told my comfort place was “the armpit of America” or being asked if “it even gets warm there in the summer” I was certainly taken aback. How could anyone not understand the magic that is the Jersey Shore? I know that viewing the TV show of the same name, it may be hard to imagine the same feeling of nostalgia and peace I experienced there as a child, unbeknownst to the chaos around me.

My only exposure to a North Carolinian beach pre-college was the TV show Outer Banks. Even watching that show, I could see the appeal of the beaches here. After visiting Wilmington myself, I can say that I was in awe of the wide landscape and fresh air, and it even reminded me a little of home. While I always think that the Jersey Shore will hold the highest place in my heart, it is nice to have a piece of home down South as well.
