One of the biggest surprises after moving South? Realizing just how different boutique culture is between New Jersey and North Carolina. Back home, I was all about Hazel Boutique, Lucki Clover, Vanilla Sky, and Dor L’dor—the go-tos for girls who love trendy, city-inspired style with a little edge.

But once I touched down in High Point and started exploring the local scene, I found myself walking into Monkee’s, Boho Blu, and Pink Poppy—and walking out with bows, boots, and bell sleeves I never thought I’d love.

So, let’s break it down.

Northeastern Boutiques: Bold, Chic, and Instagram-Ready

These stores are built for the cool-girl aesthetic. Think street-style with a girly twist—lots of neutrals, sleek cuts, matching sets, and statement pieces that feel straight off Pinterest.

Style Vibe: Trendy and sophisticated, with major city influence (NYC energy is real).

Top Picks: Leather pants, corset tops, crop sweaters, gold jewelry, and the perfect “going out” bag.

Target Girl: College girls and 20-somethings who live for a Friday night outfit and a Sunday coffee run look.

These boutiques are fast-paced in terms of trends, too. You’ll find pieces that match whatever TikTok is pushing that week—whether it's cargos and baby tees or ballet-core and metallics. You shop here when you want to turn heads.

Southern Boutiques: Sweet, Statement-Making, and Oh-So-Charming

Shopping in High Point feels different. It’s softer, friendlier, and unapologetically feminine. Southern boutiques lean into bold color, playful patterns, and that classic charm that’s hard not to fall for.

Style Vibe: Preppy meets modern Southern belle—florals, ruffles, and bow details galore.

Top Picks: Flowy midi dresses, monogrammable totes, rhinestone cowgirl boots, and puff-sleeved blouses.

Target Girl: The SEC game-day queen, the brunch-with-mom girl, and the sorority sister who’s always put together.

These stores aren’t chasing every microtrend—they're curating a vibe. It's less about looking edgy and more about looking elevated (even if you're just going to class).

So… Where Do I Shop Now?

Honestly? Both.

Since starting Girls Go South, I’ve embraced the best of both worlds. I still scroll Hazel’s new arrivals for my weekend looks—but I’m also wearing Monkee’s sundresses with cowgirl boots to tailgates. My closet is part North, part South, and fully me.

Because fashion doesn’t have to fit in a box (or a region). Sometimes it’s okay to love both baggy cargos and bubble sleeves.
